Arcot Basmati

Our shop is located at No 71a in Vcv Layout, which is in the R S Puram area of Coimbatore. We are tucked away a bit, right behind where the old Shanmuga Theatre is. R S Puram is a nice neighborhood, but our business is quite practical. We deal with bags of rice and grains, so you will see stacks of sacks piled up around the walls. The smell of raw rice is the first thing you notice when you walk in. We don't have a showroom with glass cases or anything like that. It’s more of a warehouse feel where we keep the stock organized. People from the nearby houses come in to get their monthly supplies. We spend a lot of our time weighing things out on the scales and tying up bags with twine. The floor is concrete and can get a bit dusty from the grain husks. We have a small desk where we keep the ledger and handle the cash. It’s mostly just us and a couple of guys who help with the heavy lifting of the 25kg bags. The street outside is usually busy with scooters and cars looking for parking. We’ve been here for a while and have seen the shops around us change many times. We just keep our doors open, moving the bags in and out and making sure the inventory is right. It’s hard work on the back, but it keeps us busy.
