You can find Sameena Herbal Beauty Parlour over at 926 Poonamallee High Road. It’s a big, busy road in Purasawalkam, and we are quite close to Hotel Abu Palace. The traffic noise is constant outside with all the buses and cars, but once you step inside, it gets a little bit quieter. We focus on using herbal things because that’s what people around here seem to prefer for their skin and hair. The shop has a specific smell of dried herbs and oils which I’ve grown to like over the years. It’s not a very large place, but we have partitioned it to give some privacy to the women who come in. The walls are painted a light color, though they have some stains here and there from the water. We get a lot of ladies coming in from the nearby apartments. They usually stop by after finishing their morning household chores. We talk about family and cooking while I work on their hair. The humidity in Chennai is always a challenge for us, so we try to keep the place as breezy as we can with the windows and fans. We have a few small plants in the corner to make it look a bit more natural. It’s a simple setup with basic tools. We don't have a big neon sign outside, just a small one that most people recognize. We have been here for a long time and the neighborhood feels like family.
