Alankar Saloon

This is Alankar Saloon over in Vyasarpadi. We are on 1st street in Bharathy nagar. It’s a small shop, been here for quite some time. The neighborhood is busy, but our street is a bit tucked away from the main road. Inside, it's just two chairs and a bench for waiting. I usually have the radio playing softly in the background. Most of the men who come here work nearby in the various shops or at the station. They want a quick shave or a trim before heading home. I don't use any fancy equipment, just the regular clippers and a good straight razor. The floor is tile and it gets messy with hair, but I sweep it up every hour or so. The lighting is okay, bright enough to see what I'm doing. Sometimes kids come in for their school haircuts and they can be a bit wiggly. I've got used to that after so many years. The door squeaks a little when it opens. It’s a simple setup. I’m not trying to be a big fancy salon. I just do the work and people pay the regular price. It’s a honest day’s work for me. We stay open late most nights because that’s when the workers finish their shifts. It’s been this way for years and I don’t see it changing much. Just a basic spot for a basic cut for the neighborhood folks.
