Ambika Saloon

Ambika Saloon is located at No:15, Shop No:2 on Jayaraman Street. We are in Ayyavoo Colony in Aminjikarai. The shop is near the M R Hospital Road. It is a quiet little spot compared to the main roads of Chennai. I have been running this place for a good while now. It is a small shop, just enough for a couple of chairs and a place for people to sit while they wait. I have one helper who comes in the afternoons. We see a lot of people who are going to or coming from the hospital. Sometimes they are tired and just want to sit quietly while I cut their hair. Other times, we have locals who want to chat about everything under the sun. I keep the shop very basic. I have my tools laid out on a clean cloth every morning. The lighting is not the best, but I know my way around a pair of scissors well enough. Aminjikarai is a busy area, but Jayaraman Street is a bit more relaxed. I like the balance. We do not have any fancy decorations or music. Just the sound of the scissors and the traffic from the hospital road. I try to make sure everyone leaves looking a bit better than when they came in. It is not a grand business, but it is mine. I stay open late because you never know who might need a shave in the evening.
