Saloon Ezhilagam

Saloon Ezhilagam is located on Big Street in Triplicane. We are at No 29, which is quite close to the China Masuthi. Triplicane is a place with so much history and very narrow streets, and we are right in the middle of all that activity. Our saloon is a small, traditional spot where local men come for their grooming needs. We have been in this location for many years. You can hear the sounds of the street and the calls from the mosque while you are sitting in the barber chair. It is a very grounded and simple place. We don't have air conditioning, just a couple of old ceiling fans that spin all day to keep the air moving. The chairs are old but they are comfortable enough for a twenty-minute haircut. Most of our customers are people who live in the old houses around Big Street. We do shaves with straight razors and simple haircuts. No one comes here for a fancy style they saw on television; they just want to look tidy for work or family events. We keep a bucket of water and some clean towels ready at all times. It is a very humble operation. Sometimes it gets quite hot in the afternoon, but we just keep working. Being near China Masuthi, we get a lot of people stopping in after their prayers too. It’s a steady pace of work.
