Raman Julu Saloon

Our shop, Raman Julu Saloon, is located at No.53 on Padavattamman Koil Street. We are over in the Vepery area, quite close to Purasawalkam, so there is always a lot of movement nearby. It’s an old part of Chennai, and our building has been here for quite some time. Inside, things are pretty basic. We have our chairs, our mirrors, and the tools we use for haircuts and shaves. It’s a man’s saloon where you can come in, sit down, and get your hair sorted out without any long speeches or expensive add-ons. I spent a lot of time learning how to use the razor and the scissors properly, so I take my time with each person. The street outside is usually full of bikes and people walking to the nearby shops. Sometimes it gets a bit dusty when the wind blows through Vepery, but we sweep up often. It’s just me and a couple of others working here. We don’t have a website or anything like that; we just rely on people seeing the sign and coming in. Most of our regulars live within walking distance. They come by every few weeks to keep looking sharp. We don’t try to be anything we aren't. It’s just a place for a good haircut at a fair price, right in the heart of the neighborhood where we grew up. We've been here long enough that the shop just feels like a natural part of the street.
