Raasi Beauty Parlour

We are located at No 9 on Narayanappa Naicken Street. If you know Washermanpet in Chennai, you’ve probably walked past us a few times. We are right opposite the Chinna Market, which is always full of people buying vegetables and things. Raasi Beauty Parlour has been here for a while, and the area is usually very loud and busy. The street is narrow, and you have to watch out for the scooters zooming by. Inside the shop, it’s a bit calmer. We have our regulars who come in every month. They know us by name, and we know exactly how they like their hair done. It’s a local business through and through. We don’t use any of those big corporate systems. We just write things down or remember them. The walls have a few posters on them, and the lights are bright enough to see what we are doing. Working in Washermanpet means you meet a lot of hard-working people. We try to be quick because everyone has somewhere to be. Sometimes the heat gets to be a bit much, so the fan is always running on high. We spend our days cutting hair and talking about what’s happening in the market across the street. It’s just a normal shop run by normal people. We open up every morning and wait for the first customer to walk through the door. The sound of the market is just part of our day. We keep the mirrors clean and the floor swept.
