Farida Food Centre

Farida Food Centre is located at No 11, Jones Street in the Parrys area of Chennai. If you know Parrys, you know how packed and narrow the streets are. Jones Street is no exception. We’ve been operating out of this small space for a long time. It’s a very old building, and we’ve had to fix the plumbing and the wiring more times than I can count. Our daily routine is mostly about prepping for the lunch rush. Since we're in a commercial area, we get a lot of office clerks and shop workers coming in between one and two in the afternoon. It gets very crowded, and sometimes people have to share tables or wait outside on the sidewalk. We don't have air conditioning, just some old ceiling fans that whistle while they spin. The air is always thick with the smell of rice and sambar. We don't spend money on advertising or fancy signs. Most of our customers have been coming to us for years and know exactly what they want before they even sit down. Sometimes we run out of certain items early, and we just have to tell people we're sorry. It’s a bit of a scramble every day to get everything cooked and served before the afternoon heat gets too bad. We just focus on doing our job and keeping the place clean enough to pass inspection. It’s a humble business, but it keeps us going.
