Bee Mens Parlour is tucked away at number 52/4 on Paddy Field Road. If you are looking for us in Perambur, just head towards the bus dipot and look behind it. That is where we have been for a good while now. It is a small shop, but it serves the purpose for all the men in this neighborhood. Perambur is always loud with the sounds of buses and people rushing to catch their rides, so the shop feels like a little bit of a break from that. I usually spend my time cleaning the clippers and making sure the towels are ready for the next person. It is not a place with air conditioning or anything high-end. We just use the basic tools and do a decent job on a haircut or a beard trim. The light inside is a bit yellow, and the floor gets covered in hair pretty fast on a Saturday. I try to keep up with it, but sometimes the shop gets full and people have to wait on the bench outside. We don't have a system for appointments; you just show up and wait your turn. Most of the guys here like to talk about cricket or the local politics while they sit in the chair. It keeps the day interesting for me. Chennai summers are no joke, so we have a couple of big fans running all day long to keep the air moving. If the power goes, we just keep the door open and use the natural light from the street.
