Bala Beauty Parlour

Bala Beauty Parlour is on East Kalmandapam Road, at No 1/27 in Royapuram. It’s a busy road with lots of bikes and people walking by all the time. The shop itself is tucked into a spot that we have been using for a good while. Inside, we have three chairs and a long counter where we keep all the scissors, clips, and bottles. The floor is made of grey stones that are easy to wash down at the end of the day. We have a sink in the back for washing hair, though the water pressure can be a bit slow sometimes when the tank is low. The walls have a few calendars hanging up and maybe a picture or two. It isn't a large space, so when there are four or five people inside, it can feel a bit cramped. We keep the door open to get some breeze from the street, but that also means a bit of dust comes in. Most of the people who come here live in the nearby blocks and have been coming for years. We do simple haircuts and some basic skin things like cleaning up the face. There is no big receptionist desk, just a small stool where we keep the diary for writing down who came in. It's just a regular workplace where we spend most of our day. We try to keep things organized, but sometimes it gets messy when we are busy. Usually we close up when the sun goes down and it starts getting dark.
