Our flower shop is at 112/2 in Rajas Garden, which is right in the heart of Malleshwaram. If you have ever been to this part of the city, you know that flowers are a big deal here. We spend a lot of our time sitting on the floor or on small stools, stringing together jasmine and marigolds into long garlands. The floor is almost always covered in green stems and colorful petals that have fallen while we work. Rajas Garden is a lively spot, and the smell of the flowers usually fills the air for quite a distance around our shop. We start very early in the morning when the fresh loads of flowers arrive from the market. It can be quite damp inside because we have to keep spraying water on everything to keep the blooms from wilting in the heat. We don’t have any fancy refrigerated displays, just some buckets of water and wooden boards where we do our work. People come to us when they have a wedding or a festival happening at home. Malleshwaram is a very traditional area, so we are always kept busy with different orders throughout the week. The shop is small and can get a bit crowded when we have a lot of bags waiting to be picked up. We don't really use a computer or anything like that; we just keep track of things in a simple notebook we keep on the shelf.
