Renuka Prasanna Theatre

The theatre is located in Marenahalli 2nd Phase on 21st Main Road. It’s been a part of this neighborhood for a long time, and you can tell by the architecture. We have a large screen and rows of seats that have seen thousands of people over the years. The lobby is quite open and has a simple counter where we sell tickets and snacks. Before a show starts, there is always a crowd outside near the entrance, and the 21st Main Road gets a bit clogged with bikes. We spend a lot of time sweeping up popcorn and empty bottles between the screenings. The projector room is up a narrow set of stairs, and that’s where the real work happens to keep the movies running. Sometimes the fans on the ceiling make a bit of a whirring sound, but once the movie starts, nobody really notices. The walls have posters of whatever is playing currently, stuck up with tape or in simple frames. It’s an old-school way of watching a movie compared to the big malls. We have a regular crew of guys who handle the doors and the ticket checking. It’s a straightforward operation. People come here to sit in the dark for a couple of hours and enjoy a story. It’s not fancy, but it gets the neighborhood together, especially when a big star has a new release out.
