Menaka Theatre has been sitting here on Kempa Gowda Road for a long time. You find us right at the 1st Cross in Gandhi Nagar. It’s an old building, and you can feel that when you walk in. The lobby isn't very big, so when a big movie is playing, people end up spilling out onto the street. We spend a lot of time cleaning up popcorn buckets and soda bottles between the shows. The projection room is where the real work happens, making sure the film runs right without any glitches. Sometimes the air conditioning acts up, or a seat needs a bit of repair, and we just handle it as we go. It’s a busy part of town, K G Road is always noisy with buses and cars honking, but once the movie starts, you kind of forget about all that. We have some staff members who have worked here for years and they remember how things used to be before all the multiplexes opened up. It’s a bit different now, but we still get a good crowd for the big releases. We don't have fancy leather recliners or anything like that, just rows of chairs and a big screen. People come here for the experience of watching a movie with a loud crowd. It gets pretty chaotic during the ticket sales, especially on Fridays, but that’s just how it is in Gandhi Nagar. We just keep the film running and the gates open for the next show.
