Our place is in the Krishna Building on 5th Cross, right off Sampige Road. Being in Malleshwaram means it is always busy, especially on festival days when everyone wants something special. We have been working out of this spot at number 72 for a long time now. Most of our work involves big frames, wires, and heaps of loose flowers that we have to sort through every single morning. The floor is usually covered in discarded stems and bits of string by the time we are halfway through the day. We don't have fancy furniture, just a few plastic chairs and a lot of floor space to spread things out so we can work. When there is a big wedding coming up, we stay late into the night, sometimes working by the light of a single bulb. It gets tiring, and our fingers get stained from the sap, but that is just the job. We know most of the shopkeepers around here, so we swap stories over tea while waiting for the next load of marigolds to arrive. The traffic on Sampige Road can be a nightmare for our vans, but we’ve learned which shortcuts to take through the side streets to save time. It’s not always easy work, and sometimes things go wrong, like a late delivery or flowers that don't look right, but we just deal with it. It's just a local business run by people who know the area and the work.
