Our days start very early, usually way before most people are even awake. That is when the fresh flowers arrive and we have to get them into water right away. The shop is often a bit of a mess with leaves, cut stems, and thorns all over the floor. We have large buckets everywhere and the air always feels a bit damp. We spend hours standing at the workbenches putting things together. It’s hard on the hands and our fingers usually have a few nicks from the tools. It’s not a fancy showroom. It’s a workshop where we actually do the labor of decorating. We have a lot of different ribbons and wires scattered around the back room. Sometimes the smell of the flowers is so strong it stays on our clothes even after we go home. The neighborhood is mostly residential, so it’s a bit quieter than the main roads. We just focus on the flowers and making sure the orders are ready when they need to be. It’s a lot of manual work and we stay busy from start to finish.
