Janani Flower Decorators is right here on Magadi Road, just a short walk from Prasanna Theatre. If you’ve ever been stuck in that traffic, you’ve probably seen our sign. It’s a busy spot and the noise from the street never really stops. Inside, the floor is usually a bit wet from the buckets we use to keep everything fresh. I spend most of my mornings trimming stems and making sure we have enough for whatever comes our way. It’s not a fancy studio with air conditioning or anything like that. We just have a lot of flowers and some basic tools to tie them together. My hands always smell like sap and crushed leaves, which is just how it is in this business. We get the flowers from the market early, usually when it’s still dark outside. Sometimes the delivery is late and we have to scramble to get things ready. People come in looking for something simple for a temple visit or a small event at home. We don't do big corporate speeches here. We just sit on our stools, work with the jasmine and roses, and talk to the neighbors. The shop is small and can get a bit crowded when we have a big order to finish. It’s hard work on the back, bending over those garlands all day, but it’s what we do. Magadi Road has its own rhythm and we’ve just become a part of it over the years.
