About Nayakanahatti Horticulture Women Farmer – Agriculture & Farming in Bengaluru Rural
We spend most of our mornings out in the fields around Thimmappaiahnahally Post. It’s usually quiet here, except for the sound of tools and some talk between us. Our group is made up of local women who know this land pretty well by now. We meet up at Gonchi Boraiah’s place in Gajjuganahally to figure out the week’s work. Sometimes the weather is a bit much, especially when the sun stays high for too long, but the plants need tending regardless of how we feel. There isn't a fancy office or anything like that. Just a simple spot where we keep our tools and talk about the crops. The roads around here can be dusty during the dry months. Most of us have lived in this area our whole lives, so we’ve seen the seasons change many times over. It’s hard work, and our hands show it. We don't really have a big staff, just the neighbors coming together to get things done. People often stop by the post office and then walk over to see what’s growing. It’s just how things go in this part of the village. We handle the seeds, the water, and the harvesting when the time is right. It’s not a fast process. Growing things takes as long as it takes. We just try to keep up with the cycles of the ground and hope for enough rain to keep everything green for as long as possible.
