Jangamakote Millet Farmer Producer Company Limited

This is Jangamakote Millet Farmer Producer Company Limited. We are located at house number 38, which belongs to Mrs. Narayanamma and her husband Chikkapillappa. It’s in Chintamani, over in the Kolar district. Kolar is known for many things, but we are specifically working with millets. The soil here is good for that. We aren't a big operation with lots of staff. It’s mostly just some of us who know the land. We meet at the house to discuss who is planting what and when we should harvest. It’s a very informal way of doing things, but it works for us. We don't like all those corporate terms people use in the cities. We just speak plain English and Kannada. Being at 563125 means we are right in the middle of where the work is. Millets are a tough crop and they don't need too much water, which is good because sometimes the rain is scarce here. We spend our afternoons checking the bags and making sure the quality is okay. It’s not glamorous work, but it’s what we know. People come by the house when they have questions or need help with their crops. We’ve been living in this neighborhood for years. It’s just a group of neighbors trying to make things a bit easier for ourselves. It is a slow process but we like doing it our way.
