Sri Kirshna Silk Fabrics

Being at 658 Basettypet in Chickpet means we are right in the middle of everything. If you know Chickpet, you know how the streets are—narrow, crowded, and always moving. Our shop is packed tight with silk fabrics. We have shelves that go all the way to the ceiling, and sometimes we have to use a shaky ladder to reach the stuff at the very top. It gets very loud outside with the honking and people shouting, but inside we just focus on the fabric. The silk has a certain smell to it, and the colors are everywhere. We spend our mornings unpacking new arrivals and our afternoons trying to show them to whoever walks in. It’s not a quiet job. We’re often arguing about where a certain bolt of cloth went or why the delivery bike is late again. There’s a small corner where we keep a stove for coffee, and that’s the most popular spot in the shop. We don’t have much space to move around, so we’re always bumping into each other. Most of our day is spent unfolding and folding fabric back up. It’s a lot of work on the arms and back. People come from all over to this area, so we see all sorts of faces. We’ve been at this spot for a while, and the wooden floors are starting to show the wear and tear of all those years.
