Canfield School

Our place is right on the ground floor of the main road in Somaladoddi. If you’re driving through Anantapur, you’ve probably passed us plenty of times without thinking much of it. Being on the ground floor is handy because we don’t have to deal with stairs, which is great when we’re moving furniture or when the younger ones are running around. The main road is always busy, so there’s a constant hum of engines and horns outside, but inside we try to keep things a bit more focused. It’s a practical location, really. We get a lot of dust from the road, so there is someone usually sweeping the front area every couple of hours to keep it decent. We’ve been at this address for a bit now, and we’ve seen the shops around us change hands a few times, but we’re still here doing our thing. It’s a simple school. We don't have any big flashy signs or fancy lobbies. It's just classrooms with benches and boards where the teaching happens. Most of our students come from the nearby houses, so they just walk over in the mornings. We know most of the families by name. It’s that kind of place. Sometimes we have to yell a bit over the traffic noise if the windows are open, but you get used to that after a week or two. We just focus on the lessons and try to keep things moving along steadily.
