Akole Mahila Farmers. Based at House No. 178 in Khirvire. Ahmednagar is a big place but our village is small. This is a group for the women in our community to work together on farming. We started it because we saw that working alone wasn't helping much. At the house in Khirvire, we meet up and talk about the crops and the markets. It’s mostly about getting the women involved in the business side of the farm. We have a lot of work to do every day with the fields and the house, but we make time for this too. Ahmednagar weather is sometimes tough, but we manage. Most of the folks here know the house number 178. We don't use any big machines or anything, just hands-on work. It’s about making sure we get a fair price for what we grow. Being a producer company means we can pool our resources. We don't have any corporate training or anything like that. We just know how to farm because that’s what our families have always done. If you come to the village, you’ll see us working in the fields or sitting together planning the next season. It's a very straightforward way of living. We just want to make sure the women here have a say in how things are run. It’s a group effort for the village and it helps everyone out when the harvest comes. We stay busy and we stay together because it’s the only way things get done around here.
