Our office is in room 102 of the Raja Ram Mohan Rai Complex, right in the M.T. H Compound area. It is a busy building with a lot of different businesses, but you can usually tell where we are because of the faint smell of savory spices hanging in the hallway. We do not have fancy leather chairs or glass walls. It is mostly just desks piled with order forms and cardboard boxes waiting to be taped up. The phones ring quite a bit with people asking about delivery times or wanting to order more packets of bhujia and chips. We spend a lot of time checking the inventory lists against what is actually sitting in the stacks. Sometimes the lift in the complex is broken, so we end up hauling bags of snacks up the stairs, which is quite a workout. The windows look out over the compound where the delivery vans are always jockeying for a parking spot. It gets pretty loud during the lunch hour when everyone is moving around. We have a small kettle for making tea, and that is usually running all day long. It is a practical place where we focus on getting the snacks out to the shops on time. There is always a stray crumb or two on the floor, no matter how much we sweep, but that just comes with the territory of working with food all day. We just keep the boxes moving.
