Costa Coffee

You can find us over at the IARI Pusa Campus, specifically at 2Nd-A-13. It’s a bit of a different spot for a coffee place because it’s tucked away in the research institute grounds. We get a lot of students and scientists coming in who look like they haven’t slept much. The mornings are usually our busiest time. We start early, getting the machines warmed up and the milk ready. The steam wand makes a loud hissing sound that you get used to after a while. It’s a nice change of pace from the louder parts of New Delhi because the campus has so many trees. Sometimes birds fly in if we leave the door open too long. We spend a lot of our shift wiping down the counters and making sure there are enough napkins on the tables. It’s not a massive space, so it fills up quickly when a lecture finishes. We have a regular routine every day. We check the stock, brew the coffee, and talk to the people who come in. Some of the professors have been coming here since we opened. We don’t have a big flashy sign outside. It’s just a quiet corner where you can get a drink. The floor gets a bit muddy when it rains, so we are always mopping. It’s just a normal job in a nice, green part of the city, and we like the people who visit.
