Henath Provision Store

Henath Provision Store has been sitting here at the Main Chowk in Vadodara for a while. If you know where Gayatri Flate is, then you know exactly where we are because we’re right across from it. Dealing with a shop in the middle of a chowk means it’s always loud and there’s always something happening outside the door. I usually spend my mornings checking the stock and making sure the bags of rice and flour are stacked right. It gets crowded in the evenings when everyone is coming home from work and realizes they forgot to buy something for dinner. We know most of the families living in the flats nearby. It’s nice seeing the kids grow up and then eventually they start coming in to buy things for their own houses. We don’t have any big signs or bright lights, just the usual stuff you’d expect in a provision store. Sometimes the delivery trucks are late because of the traffic in 390001, but we manage to get by. I like the routine of it. You open the shutters, sweep the front, and wait for the first customer. It’s not complicated work, but it keeps us busy. We don’t really change much around here, we like things the way they are. If someone needs a particular spice or just a packet of biscuits, they know they can just walk over. It’s a steady kind of life.
