Shree Jagdish Chewda Mart

People have been coming to our spot across from Jubali Baug in Raopura for a long time. It usually smells like fried gram and spices around here by ten in the morning. My father started this, and now we just keep the same rhythm going every day. You can hear the traffic outside, but inside we are just focused on the big vats and the mixing. Shree Jagdish Chewda Mart isn't a fancy place with air conditioning or anything like that. It is just a shop where we fry things and bag them up. Sometimes the floor gets a bit oily and we have to scrub it down at night. Raopura is a busy area, so there is always someone popping in for a packet of something to eat with their tea. We don't really do big advertisements. Most people just know where we are because they’ve been coming since they were kids. It gets hot in the summers, especially near the stoves, but we are used to it by now. We spend most of our time making sure the taste doesn't change from last month or last year. It’s hard work, standing on your feet all day, but seeing the familiar faces makes it okay. We just keep the shelves stocked and try to move fast when the evening rush starts. It’s just how things go here.
