Sudana Residential School

Sudana Residential School is located over in Nehru Nagar, which is part of the Puttur area here in Udupi. Being a residential school, it’s a bit different from your average day school because the kids are here all the time. It makes for a very specific kind of atmosphere. The mornings start with everyone waking up in the dorms and heading to the dining hall for breakfast. We’ve got a decent amount of space, but it always feels full because of how many students live on-site. The Udupi weather can be quite damp and rainy for a good part of the year, so we spend a lot of time making sure the buildings are holding up and that things aren't getting too messy. The staff here mostly lives nearby or right on the grounds, so we’re all pretty close-knit. It’s not a corporate environment at all; it’s more like a very large, loud family. We deal with the usual stuff like broken desks or making sure the kitchen has enough rice for everyone for the week. The local streets in Nehru Nagar are familiar to us, and we see the same faces every day when we step outside the gates for a walk. We don't have a lot of bells and whistles, just classrooms, beds, and a place to eat together. It’s a straightforward life for the most part. The kids keep us on our toes, and there’s never a day that goes by without some kind of small drama or something needing to be fixed.
