Green Valley National School & Pu College

You can find us right on NH 17 in Shiroor, which is part of Kundapura in the Udupi district. Being on the national highway means there’s always a lot of movement outside our gates. We have both the school and the PU college here. It’s a big campus because we have to fit everyone in. The weather can get quite humid being so close to the coast, so we spend a lot of time under the fans. The buildings are spread out, and there’s plenty of greenery around, which helps with the heat. We don't have any flashy slogans. It’s just a place where students come every day. The staff room is usually a mess of textbooks and tea cups. We have a lot of students coming from nearby towns, so the bus parking area is always busy in the morning and evening. We deal with the usual things like maintaining the grounds, fixing the plumbing, and making sure the classrooms are ready for the next day. It’s a lot of physical work keeping a place this size going. During the monsoon, the rain really comes down hard on the roof, making it difficult to hear anything else. But we just carry on. It’s a familiar routine for everyone here in Shiroor. We’re just a part of the landscape on the highway, doing our bit for the local community without much fanfare.
