Shiv Metals is tucked away in the Nada Khada area, right near the busy Indira Bazar and Bapu Bazar. If you’ve ever walked through those lanes, you know how narrow and crowded they can be. Our shop is full of all sorts of metal goods. We have brass items, steel containers, and various other hardware pieces. The air usually smells a bit like copper or old iron, and there is always a layer of fine dust that we have to wipe away. We spend our mornings arranging the heavy stock so people can actually see what we have. It’s a traditional kind of shop, where everything is stacked on floor-to-ceiling shelves. We don't have a computer system or anything fancy; we mostly just use a paper ledger to keep track of what we buy and sell. The sound of the market is constant—horns honking, people shouting, and the clanging of metal. Sometimes it's hard to hear the customers, so we have to talk quite loud. We get all sorts of people, from housewives looking for a new pot to contractors needing specific hardware. We’ve been part of this market for years, and we’ve seen many shops come and go. We just keep our heads down and focus on the work. It’s hard work, moving heavy crates and dealing with the heat, but it’s what we know how to do. Most days are like this, and we don't mind the routine at all.
