About Sethi Scrap Traders – Metals & Minerals in Udaipur
I spend my days at the UIT Shopping Center in Sector-14, specifically shops 35 and 36. This is Sethi Scrap Traders, and it’s basically where old things come to be sorted. We get everything from old newspapers and empty plastic bottles to heavy iron scrap from old construction sites. It is messy work, and my hands are rarely clean. I have a big weighing scale that sits right near the entrance. Most of the morning is spent dealing with people who bring in sacks of junk on their cycles. We weigh it, I count out the cash, and then we toss it into the different piles. Organizing scrap is harder than it looks. You have to keep the copper separate from the brass, otherwise you lose money. The heat in the shopping center can get pretty bad in June. I usually sit under a small ceiling fan that makes a lot of noise. People in Sector-14 know they can bring their old batteries or broken electronics here. It's not a quiet place, there's always the sound of metal clanging or trucks backing up. We aren't doing anything fancy here, just helping move the old stuff along to the factories where it can be melted down and used again. It’s hard work, but it keeps the city a bit cleaner. I've been in these two shops for a long time now. We also take old car parts if they are made of metal.
