Rishikul Senior Secondary School

Debari is a bit outside the main part of Udaipur, so Rishikul Senior Secondary School has a lot more space than the schools in the middle of town. You can see the hills in the distance from the playground. It is a long commute for some of the staff who live in the city, but the air is a bit clearer out here. The school building is large and spread out with several wings for the different grades. Because it is a senior secondary school, the older kids are always hanging around the corridors talking about their upcoming board exams. We have a large open area where the kids play football or cricket when the weather is not too hot. The walls are painted a simple cream color, and we have the usual wooden benches in every room. It gets very quiet during the lesson times, except for the sound of the wind or a passing tractor on the road outside. We have been part of the Debari community for a long time, and many families have sent all their children to us over the years. The school office is always busy with people coming in to pay fees or ask about admissions. We don't have air conditioning, so we rely on the ceiling fans and the breeze coming through the open windows. It is a very traditional setup where we just follow the daily timetable and ring the bell every forty-five minutes.
