Down at Bhamashah Marg Teliwara Choraha 121, the sound of metal hitting metal is something you hear all day long. Mahaveer Steels is basically a place where we handle a lot of heavy lifting and cutting of different materials. The floor is usually covered in scrap bits and the walls are stained from years of hard work. We get a lot of local builders and guys doing home repairs coming through the doors looking for supplies. They usually want a specific length of rod or a certain type of steel plate, so we spend a lot of time measuring and making sure things are right for them. The intersection outside is always blocked with traffic and people shouting, which makes it feel even more chaotic during the peak hours. We don't really have a front office, just a small desk with a lot of papers and some old calculators and pens. It gets really cold in the winter because the big front doors stay open for the trucks to back in. In the summer, the metal gets hot enough to burn your skin if you aren't wearing thick gloves. We’ve been here at the choraha for quite a while now, so we know the regular customers who come by every week or so. It’s very physical work and your back definitely feels the strain by the time evening rolls around. We just keep our heads down and get the orders ready.
