Jain Metal Store is tucked away in Mandi Ki Naal 102, and if you aren’t looking for it, you might just walk right past. We have stacks of brass and stainless steel piled up almost to the ceiling. It can be a bit of a mess sometimes, especially when we are looking for a specific size of pot or a particular type of thali for a customer. My father started this place, and I’ve been sitting here since I was a teenager. The metal clinks and bangs all day long as we move things around. It’s a dusty business, honestly. You wipe the shelves in the morning and by noon they are covered in a thin layer again. Mandi Ki Naal is always loud with people shouting and horns honking, but inside the store, it’s mostly just the smell of metal and the sound of someone tapping on a vessel to check how thick it is. We sell a lot of stuff for kitchens and some bits for temples too. Most days are just about helping people find what they need for their homes. We don't have a website or anything like that, just this shop and a heavy ledger where we write things down. It’s a simple way to spend the day, really. Sometimes it’s slow and we just sit on the stools and watch the street, but then a whole family walks in and we’re busy for an hour.
