Bombay Steel Centre

Down in Bhopalwadi 116, you’ll find Bombay Steel Centre. It’s one of those narrow lanes where you have to watch your step because there is always someone moving a crate or a heavy sack. Our shop is filled with stainless steel items—everything from little spoons to those big pots you use for cooking for a whole crowd. The steel reflects the light, so it’s quite bright inside even when it’s cloudy outside. We spend a lot of time unpacking boxes and arranging the shelves so everything fits. It’s a loud place because when steel hits steel, it makes a ringing sound that echoes through the room. We don't have a big staff, just a couple of us who know where the tiffin boxes and the water jugs are kept. Customers come in looking for wedding gifts or stuff for their own kitchens. We don't have a fancy catalog or a sales team. We just show people what we have and tell them the price. Bhopalwadi is always humming with activity, and we are right in the middle of it. Sometimes the shop feels too small for all the stock we have, but we manage. We’ve been here a long time, and the walls are a bit stained and the floor is worn down, but it’s a good place to be. We just take it one day at a time, serving the people who walk in.
