We’ve been here at 108-B on South New Street for a while now. Most mornings start with the heavy metal shutter making that loud clanging sound that everyone on the block knows. It’s just us here, a small family thing. My sons are usually already inside moving stuff around before I even get the keys out. There’s a lot of dust sometimes, but that’s just how it is when you’re dealing with the kind of stock we have. People walk by on South New Street and peek in, sometimes they stop to chat about the weather or how busy the road is getting these days. We don't have fancy desks or anything. Just some old chairs and a lot of ledgers that we still keep by hand mostly. It’s easier that way for us to see what’s going out and what’s coming in. The boys handle the heavy lifting while I keep track of the names. We aren't doing anything world-changing, just keeping the business going like it has been. Sometimes the tea man comes by twice if we’re having a long afternoon. The walls could use a bit of paint, I suppose, but we never really get around to it because there’s always another delivery or someone calling about an order. We just focus on getting the work done right so we can go home at a decent hour. It's a simple life at M M & Sons.
