Down in Mathur, Tiruvannamalai, you’ll find Jeeva Velu Matriculation Higher Secondary School. It’s a long name for a place that feels pretty simple once you walk through the doors. The school is situated in a spot that gets quite warm during the summer months, but we have some trees that help out. It’s a school for the local kids from around the Mathur area. Most of the staff here have lived in Tiruvannamalai their whole lives, so we are all pretty familiar with each other. We don’t have any fancy marketing teams or glossy brochures. We just open the gates early and get the classrooms ready for the day. There are primary kids and the older ones too, all sharing the space. It gets quite lively during the lunch breaks. You’ll see the older students helping the younger ones sometimes, which is nice to watch. We spend a lot of time on the basic stuff like reading and math. The building itself is sturdy and has been through many seasons. We keep the place clean as best as we can, though with so many students, there’s always a bit of dust. It’s just a regular part of life here. We don't try to be anything we aren't. We’re just a local school doing what we can for the families who send their children to us every day.
