You can find our place at 42, 3rd Main Road in Pon Nagar. It’s a decent area, and we have been here for some time now. The building is simple, just like the rest of the businesses along this road. We do a lot of trading, so there are always boxes being moved in and out. The front door is usually propped open with a brick to let some breeze through, otherwise, it gets a bit stuffy inside with all the merchandise piled up. I spend most of my time sitting at the wooden table near the front, waiting for the next delivery or someone to stop by. Pon Nagar is a good place to work because things are generally predictable. We know the other shop owners on the street and we often chat while we’re out sweeping the front or taking a break. The inventory changes depending on what’s available and what people are asking for at the moment. We don’t have a website or any of those modern things; we just write things down in a ledger and talk to people face to face. It’s how we’ve always done it. The floor is just plain tiles that show every bit of dirt, so we have to sweep it a few times a day. It’s a basic operation, but it keeps us busy from morning until we lock up in the evening when the street finally goes quiet and we go home.
