If you come down Karamadai Road, you’ll find us at Brindhavanna Illam. It’s a small place, 3/1 to be exact. We deal with fresh essentials, mostly stuff coming down from the hills around Ooty. It gets pretty busy in the mornings when the crates arrive. We spend a lot of time sorting through things to make sure everything is okay. Tribal Ooty Fresh Essentials Private Limited started because there was a need to get these items out to people. We aren't a big corporation. It's just a few of us making sure the supplies are handled right. The building is tucked away a bit, so people sometimes miss the turn. We have a small storage area that stays pretty cool. Sometimes the smells of the fresh produce are quite strong, but it’s nice. We don't use any fancy systems, just a ledger and some common sense. My neighbor helps with the packing during the peak weeks. It’s a lot of lifting and moving boxes. We try to stay ahead of the schedule, but transport from the hills can be tricky when the roads are bad. There’s always a bit of mud on the floor from the boots. We just clean it up at the end of the day. It’s a simple operation and we like it that way. We just want to keep the flow of goods steady. Mostly it's about making sure the vegetables and fruits don't sit around for too long.
