We are based in the rural parts of Udhagamandalam, specifically around Denadmund. Our office address is 3, Dodabetta Post. If you know the area, you know it’s high up and the air is different there. Pasuvanam is a group of us who farm these hills. It’s beautiful scenery but it’s also a lot of hard work. You can’t just drive a tractor through most of our plots because of the rocks and the slopes. It’s a lot of walking and carrying heavy bags on our backs. We grow vegetables and other things that like the mountain mist and the cool nights. The office is a small spot where we meet to figure out the logistics of getting things down to the town. Dealing with the mountain roads can be a headache when it rains. Sometimes the roads wash out or get blocked and we just have to wait. That’s just part of living in the Nilgiris. We don't have a big corporate structure or fancy titles. We are just people who grew up with dirt under our fingernails. We share our knowledge about which slopes get the best sun and how to keep the soil from washing away. It’s a constant battle with the elements. We started the collective because we realized we could get more done if we helped each other out with the transport and the tools. It’s a simple arrangement based on trust. We aren't looking to get rich, just to keep our way of life going.
