Sri Savithri Vidhyalaya Matriculation School is right on Karanthai Main Road in Thanjavur. If you know Thanjavur, you know Karanthai is an old area with a lot of character. The school building itself is quite old too, with those thick walls that keep things a little cooler than the modern buildings. There’s a constant hum of traffic from the main road, so you never really get total silence here. The classrooms are arranged around a small central space where we hold our morning assembly. It’s a bit of a tight squeeze when all the kids are there. The stairs are made of stone and they’ve been worn smooth over the decades. We have a lot of long-serving staff who have been here for twenty years or more. We know the families in the neighborhood quite well. The playground isn't much to look at, just a patch of ground in the back where the kids run around. We don't have a big website or a social media page that we use. Usually, if parents have a question, they just walk into the office and ask. The desks are the old-fashioned kind with the bench attached to the table. We keep things simple because that’s how it’s always been done at Sri Savithri Vidhyalaya. It’s a local institution that’s been part of the Karanthai landscape for as long as most people can remember.
