University Of Kashmir

Having this University of Kashmir office here in Jammu is very helpful for the people who cannot always make the long trip up to the main campus in Srinagar. It is a smaller setup than the main university grounds, but we stay just as busy with all the administrative work that needs doing. We handle a lot of different forms, exam registrations, and student questions every single day. The office has that specific smell of old paper and ink that you find in most educational buildings. There are almost always people waiting in line, holding their folders and looking a bit anxious about their marks or their admission status. We try to move things along as fast as we can, but sometimes the computer system is slow or there is a lot of manual checking to do. It is a very practical place, with not much in the way of decoration, just some old posters on the walls about university rules and important dates. The staff here in Jammu are mostly local people who understand the difficulties of the daily commute. We spend our time answering many of the same questions over and over, but we know it really matters to the students. It gets a bit quieter during the summer breaks, but once the new semester starts, the phone does not stop ringing. We are just here to help with the paperwork so the students can focus on their actual studies without extra travel.
