Sheri Kashmir Institute Of Medical Sciences, Medical College

We are located out in the Arabal area of Shalimar in Srinagar. Being part of the medical college here at the Sheri Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences means things are almost always moving fast. You’ll see students in their white coats rushing between classes and the hospital wings all day long. The halls can be a bit cold and drafty, especially when the wind comes off the mountains, but we are used to it. Our offices are tucked away in the college building, where we handle the administrative side of things and look after the student records. It’s a lot of paper work and filing, but it’s important for keeping the school running. We can see some of the trees from the windows, which is nice when we need a moment to rest our eyes from the computer screens. The atmosphere is serious because of the medical setting, but we still find time to joke around with each other during the tea breaks. It’s a large campus, so we end up doing a lot of walking every day just to get from one building to another. Most of us have been working here for years and we’ve seen many groups of doctors graduate and move on. It’s a busy, sometimes tiring place to work, but it feels good to be part of the community here in Kashmir. We just keep things organized day by day.
