Govt. College For Women

Our college is situated in the Nawa Kadal area of Srinagar. It’s right by the old bridge, which everyone knows. Being a women’s college, it’s a place where girls from all over the city and the outskirts come to study. The weather really dictates our day here. When it’s winter, everything slows down because of the cold. We have the old heating systems, and students wear their heavy woolens to class. In the summer, the Chinar trees nearby look very nice. The building itself has been here for a long time. It has that old Srinagar feel to it. You can see the river from some of the upper windows. The streets around Nawa Kadal are quite narrow and always full of people and small shops selling bread and tea. It can get a bit loud outside with the local vendors calling out. We don’t have many fancy things inside, just the standard classrooms and a library that smells like old paper. The girls usually gather in the corridors during their breaks to talk. We try to keep things running smooth, but sometimes the snow or the local situation makes things a bit difficult. It’s just a regular government college doing what it can. People here are used to the rhythm of the city. We open the gates early and close them before it gets dark. It’s a familiar landmark for anyone living in this part of Srinagar.
