Up here in Srinagar, the weather really dictates how the day goes at Dr. Inam College Of Education. When it’s cold, everyone is huddled in their coats, and the walk to the campus can be a bit of a struggle. We’re located in the 190001 area, and it’s a place where people are serious about becoming teachers. It’s not like a primary school; the students here are adults, but they still have that nervous energy before their practice teaching sessions. The library is probably the busiest room we have. It’s filled with books on pedagogy and history, and there’s usually a queue for the printer. The desks are a bit worn out, and the lighting in some of the corridors could be better, but it’s a functional space for learning. We spend a lot of time talking about lesson plans and how to manage a classroom. Our staff room is often full of half-drunk cups of tea and piles of assignments that need marking. There isn't much in the way of decoration on the walls, just some old charts and the occasional notice about upcoming exams. We don't try to look like those big modern universities you see in magazines. It’s just a straightforward college where people come to get their degrees and move on to their careers in schools across the valley. It’s a quiet kind of work, mostly reading and writing and discussing how to be better at explaining things to children.
