The Jammu And Kashmir Health Services office is tucked away in Upper Soura, Sgr, right in the heart of Kashmir. It’s a busy spot, mostly because of where we are located. The building itself has been around for a while and it shows a little bit of wear and tear, but it serves us well for what we do. Working in Upper Soura means we see a lot of people coming and going throughout the day. It’s not one of those sterile environments you might expect. There’s always a bit of chatter in the hallways and the smell of tea from the small break room. We handle a lot of the administrative side of things here, so there are always ledgers and forms spread out across the desks. The winters get quite cold in Srinagar, so we usually have the heaters going full blast, which makes the rooms feel a bit stuffy but cozy. We don't have fancy office furniture; most of it is stuff that’s been passed down through different departments over the years. It’s a practical place, focused on the tasks at hand for the health services. Sometimes the power cuts out and we have to wait a bit, but we just use that time to catch up on things. It’s a very local operation, deeply rooted in this part of Kashmir, just doing what needs to be done.
