Computer Instructor

Working as a computer instructor in Srinagar means dealing with the changing seasons while trying to keep the technology running. The place is in Mustufa Abad, specifically in the Zainakote area along the Old HMT Road. It’s a familiar part of town for most locals. The room where I teach is fairly basic. I have a few desks set up with systems for whoever wants to learn. When the winter hits, it can get quite cold, so we usually have a heater going while we work on the computers. It’s not a formal institution with a big lobby; it’s just a space where I share what I know about computers. People come from the surrounding neighborhoods of Zainakote to sit and practice. The Old HMT Road always has trucks and cars passing by, so there’s a constant background noise. My routine involves opening up early and checking the power situation before the first person arrives. It’s a very hands-on job. I spend a lot of time pointing at screens and explaining keyboard shortcuts. The goal is just to make sure people in this part of Srinagar feel comfortable using a mouse or navigating the web. It's a simple life here. I don't use any fancy teaching materials, just the computers themselves and some notes I've written down over the years. Some days are slow, but I like the process of teaching someone something new every single morning.
