The Geology Mining Department J K is tucked away in the government colony at Bagh I Mehtab in Srinagar. Our office is number 471, and it’s a place where we deal with all the rules and paperwork involving the ground under us. Working in Kashmir means we have to deal with a lot of mountains and cold winters. Most of the staff here have lived in Srinagar their whole lives, so we understand how things move. We spend our mornings looking over permits and checking on mining sites to see if everything is going according to the local laws. It is a lot of sitting at desks surrounded by maps and old files, but we also head out to the sites quite a bit. You’ll see us out there in our boots, checking on the stone and sand work. It’s not a glamorous job, and the paperwork can get overwhelming at times, but it’s necessary for the area. We try to keep things moving as fast as we can, though sometimes the system is slow. We aren’t a private business looking for profit; we’re just a government office doing our bit for the state's resources. The office can be a bit chaotic on busy days, but we manage to keep track of the details. It’s just us, working in a quiet colony, trying to keep the mining side of things organized for everyone in the region.
