Trans-Asia Carpet Co. is located on the ground floor at 5 Jaipur Estate in Nizamuddin East. This area is quite peaceful and has a lot of trees, which makes coming to work pretty nice. Our space is basically one big room filled with carpets. There are rolls standing in the corners and piles of rugs stacked on top of each other. It’s not a fancy showroom with spotlights and music playing. It smells like wool and old fabric in here, which is something you get used to after a while. We spend a lot of our time unrolling these heavy things so people can see the patterns. It’s hard work on the back, but we’ve been doing it for years. The building at Jaipur Estate is an older one, so the walls have a bit of character. We don't have a lot of staff, usually just a couple of us are around to help out. It can get a bit dusty when we’re moving the older stock, but that’s just part of the carpet business. We don't have a big sign out front, just a small one so people know they’re in the right place. Most of our visitors are people from the neighborhood or folks who heard about us from a friend. We don't do any big advertising. We just sit here among the rugs and talk to whoever comes through the door. It’s a steady, quiet way to spend the day. We’re just here doing our thing.
