Siva Oriental Rugs

We are located at 86-A Shahpur Jat, which is quite close to the Asian Village area. Siva Oriental Rugs is basically a small shop stuffed with carpets from floor to ceiling. If you come in, you’ll probably have to step over a few rolled-up rugs just to get to the back. It’s a bit of a maze, but we like it that way. We spend a lot of time unrolling pieces for people to see the patterns and textures. There’s a lot of dust that comes off the wool, so we’re always sweeping, though it never feels completely clean. Shahpur Jat has changed a lot over the years, becoming more of a trendy spot, but we’ve mostly stayed the same. We don’t use any fancy lighting or displays. We just let the rugs speak for themselves. Most of our day is spent talking to people who appreciate the hand-woven stuff. We aren't interested in the mass-produced stuff you find in big malls. It’s a bit of a slow business, waiting for the right person to find the right piece for their home. We drink a lot of tea while we wait. It’s a small operation, just a couple of us here making sure the rugs stay in good condition and answering questions when someone wanders in from the street. It’s a bit cramped, but it’s home to us and we've been here a long time.
