About R. K. Art Palace – Art & Craft in South Delhi
Lajpat Nagar-Iv is always a bit chaotic, and our spot here at A-79 in Dayanand Colony is right in the middle of it. R. K. Art Palace is where we keep all the things we’ve collected and the pieces people are working on. It’s a bit crowded inside because there’s never enough shelf space for everything. You walk in and there’s that specific smell of old wood and maybe a bit of paint or metal. We don’t really have a big staff, just a few people who have been around for years and know where everything is hidden. Sometimes a customer comes in looking for something specific, and we have to dig through a few crates to find it. The floor is a bit uneven in the back room, so you have to watch your step. We spend a lot of time just cleaning dust off the items because the street outside brings in a lot of it. It’s a busy life, honestly. We take our lunch breaks sitting on the stools near the counter, usually talking about the traffic or what’s happening in the colony. It’s not a showroom where everything is shiny and perfect. It’s more of a working space where things actually happen. We’ve got stacks of paper and tools lying around most days. People know us in the neighborhood, so we often have folks just popping in to say hello. It keeps the day interesting and the work feels very real to us.
