About Polka Art Gallery – Art & Craft in South Delhi
Down in Kailash Colony, specifically at HS 4, you’ll find our little gallery. It’s not one of those silent, cold places where you’re afraid to touch anything. We have art all over the walls and sometimes even leaning against the floor because we ran out of hooks. I spend a lot of my time just organizing the canvases or talking to the frame makers who come by. We get a lot of locals who just want something nice for their living room or maybe a small gift for a friend’s new apartment. The light in the shop is actually quite good in the mornings, which helps when we’re trying to show someone the real colors of a painting. It’s mostly just me and one other person here. We handle everything from dusting the frames to helping people pick out colors that don't clash with their sofas. Sometimes the artists stop by to drop off new work and we end up sitting and drinking tea for an hour while we talk about the neighborhood. It’s a quiet life compared to the main road, but we like it that way. We don’t do big fancy openings with wine and cheese. It’s just a shop where you can look at pictures and maybe find something you like. The back room is a bit of a mess with bubble wrap and tape, but the front stays decent enough for visitors to walk around without tripping.
